MORE than 4,000 nurses around the country will continue a sit-in protest until the Government clarifies when the 2021-2023 industrial awards will be implemented, official says.
PNG Nurses Association (PNGNA) general secretary Gibson Siune said the configuration of the awards into Alesco payroll system must be completed by the Finance and the Treasury Departments, and backdated to January this year.
Siune said the implementation of the award was important as it included the life and medical insurance cover (K75 for each nurse) totaling up to around K7.8 million for this year which was needed by those serving in the frontline during the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic response.
“The nurses have been infected with diseases including Covid-19 and eight nurses in the National Capital District have died with more in the provinces,” he said.
