Official urges parents to be responsible

An education official is urging parents to be responsible for their children this festive season.
Morobe programme adviser Keith Tangui said many children tend to become mischievous during the holiday period and parents should keep their children out of trouble.
“This is a time where children meet with peers and abuse drugs, drink alcohol, play with fire crackers and disturb their community,” he said.
“Parents should make sure that this must not happen.”
Tangui reminded parents to prepare school fees for their children for next year.
He said the provincial education board (PEB) had endorsed the parental component for 2021 as follows: Elementary sector – K200 each student; primary sector – K350 each student; lower and upper secondary – K700 (day students) or K900 (boarding students); and, Tvet – K600 (day) or K800 (boarding) each student.
