Official warns visitors

ATHLETES and team officials have been advised to look after their belongings while moving around the sporting venues.
The director of the National Capital District Commission urban safety unit, Paul Komboiu, said despite the tight security measures in place, visitors should still follow security protocol. Komboi said Port Moresby was like any other city in the world when it came to law and order issues.
“And for the 3000-plus athletes to enjoy their stay in the country, it would be wise to get advice from their security escort and guides when travelling to the shops and public markets,” he said. “Do not leave bags and expensive possessions unattended in case it gets stolen by some opportunist.”
Komboi is urging Games security organisers to properly screen people going into the Games venues to prevent unauthorised people entering.
Komboi appealed to the people to make visiting athletes and officials feel at home by showing them PNG’s true hospitality.
“This is a very good opportunity for us to show our Pacific brothers and sisters that Papua New Guinea is a friendly country and we are capable of looking after them,” Komboi said.
