Officials gear up for Chimbu polling

ELECTION officials in Chimbu province yesterday joined hands to move for polling to be conducted tomorrow in the province.
Defence Force Officer Commanding Engineering Company for Chimbu and Eastern Highlands Major Wilson  Andrews, Chimbu provincial administrator Joe Kunda, provincial plection manager Steven Gore Kaupa, provincial police commander Supt Augustine Wampe and Defence Force liaison officer for Chimbu, Major Willie Galea agree to ensure a peaceful polling in Chimbu province.
They were later joined by the Highlands regional operations commander Lt – Col Tony Aseavu.
Aseavu said they were waiting for the green light from the provincial elections manager, the provincial administration and security on the ground to conduct polling.
Wampe said there were intelligence reports of suspicious helicopters landing in Gumine district and the joint security forces were on high alert.
He said security hot spots identified at polling venues of Gumine, Karimui-Nomane, Kerowagi and Kundiawa-Gembogl districts would closely be monitored during polling.
