BEN Zapok is still the acting treasurer for Tewai-Siassi district, in Morobe, officials say.

The office of Minister for Fisheries and Marine Resources, Tewai-Siassi MP Mao Zeming and acting provincial administrator Geoving Bilong confirmed this on Wednesday.

The minister’s office said Zapok, the former district accountant, was appointed to the position after the death of the former treasurer.

Former ward three councillor in Sialum local level government Teddy Moses last week voiced concern that government services were not moving as cheques were not processed and claims were not paid.

“The people of Tewai-Siassi are still waiting for a permanent district treasurer.

“Claims are not being paid and we only have two months left  before the government trust accounts are closed for this year,” he said.

“The former ward councillors are still to be paid their final allowances from April to August this year.”

Bilong said Zapok’s promotion was a national government appointment.
