OIL Search Ltd, the developer of major oil fields in Southern Highlands, has clarified a recent news article attributed to an Oil Search employee, saying that it was erroneously reported.
Oil Search , a partner in the ExxonMobil-led LNG project, said the statement by Michael Uiari that ExxonMobil had agreed to publish all that had been paid to the government and what had been spent so far were not in the best interest of ExxonMobil or project developer Esso Highlands Ltd.
They said that Uiari was an employee of Oil Search and not an employee of ExxonMobil and he did not represent the latter’s views.
They said that Uiari, as an employee of Oil Search, had an informal discussion with the Centre for Environmental Research and Development Inc. (CERD) on media publicity surrounding the CERD launch of the PNG PWYP Coalition.
Oil Search said the meeting with CERD was to understand their plans after receiving an invitation to the launch and to advise them on their activities in this area.
They said Uiari, as an employee of Oil Search, met with CERD and not as a representative of the PNG LNG project or Esso Highlands.
They said several references made to project partners and other industry participants during the discussions were not correct and misrepresented in the media.
