Oil Search donates K5,000 to NCD scouts
The National, Monday 27th Febuary 2012
OIL Search Ltd is happy to be associated with activities involving youths that set a good foundation for life.
On Friday, the company donated K5,000 to the National Capital District Scouts Association as its sponsorship of the Founder’s Day activities.
“Scouting, as we all know, is a global movement aimed at supporting young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development, that may help construct their roles in society,’’ Oil Search public affairs manager Ruth Waram said.
“Our youth are our future, and the earlier we assist in laying these foundations, the better
it is for them to grow
on that foundation, as our future leaders
and citizens of our country.”
The funds were received by NCD Central Scouts chairman Joe Kanekane, witnessed by provincial commissioner Max Galeva and scouts members.
“The Founder’s Day is a key day to which younger Scouts come to appreciate the rationale behind the formation of the Scout movement.
“They sign a pledge to help people and be counted as model citizens to the litany of activities demanded of them by the movement’s goals and ambitions,” Kanekane said.
He said commemorating the day was crucial for the movement globally, as it brought to
the fore the aims and definitions of being members of the movement and the values it stood for.
He said the objective of observing the day were to:
l Launch the PNG Scouts Association work plan for 2012;
l Introduce younger Scouts to the work of the Scouts;
l Reinforce leadership and other moral values to the younger Scouts;
l Develop a partnership network for stakeholders to work together with the scouts association: and
l To commemorate their founder.
