The Oil Search Foundation has provided the Papua New Guinea Volleyball Association with trophies and shields for the national championships to be staged in Port Moresby this weekend.
Oil Search Foundation executive director Stephanie Copus-Campbell, pictured, presented 72 trophies, including six shields, worth K9000 in total to association president Kila Dick on Tuesday.
During the presentation, Copus-Campbell said she was delighted to help the association contribute to the country’s development goals through sports.
She said the foundation’s initial aim was to deliver interconnected programmes in health, leadership, and women’s empowerment and protection since its establishment in 2012 but they decided to incorporate sports into their progammes this year.
Campbell said it was the foundation’s first time to assist the association.
“We are happy to support and sponsor the national championships,” she said.
Dick thanked the foundation for supporting volleyball despite the sport not being as big as rugby league and soccer in the country.
“Providing 78 trophies, including the six shields, is big for volleyball especially when it’s coming from Oil Search where they support to rugby league in the country,” he said.
Dick said the trophies and shields were for the men’s and women’s indoor volleyball, and beach volleyball championships.
