Oil Search putting four students into UOG

Youth & Careers

Oil Search Limited, through its Oil Search Foundation, has for the first time sponsored four women from Hela to study at University of Goroka.
They are Mickey Morris, Christina Me Sununu, Priscilla Clemency and Jacklyn Kenneth.
Morris, Sununu and Clemency will study early childhood learning and Kenneth will do a Bachelor of Education course.
“After their studies, they are required to return and give two years or more back to their provinces,” Foundation spokesperson Karlie Purkaikia said. “This is to bring back quality to Hela in whatever area of study they take.”
Pro vice-chancellor policy and planning Donald Gumbis said that it was imperative upon the three doing early childhood learning to return to Hela and impart the right type of skills needed.
He said they must ensure that not only content is taught but “quality” teaching where all things learnt and imparted were of a high standard.
Oil Search Foundation has similar arrangements with University of PNG’s medical scjhool at Taurama, Port Moresby; the Pacific Adventist University, outside Port Moresby; Lutheran School of Nursing, Madang; and Rumginae Community Health Worker Training, Western.
“For UOG, this will be our first year of partnership for our scholarship programme,” Purkaikia said.
Oil Search Foundation has six main functions. They are:

  • Champion of change programme;
  • women’s protection and empowerment;
  • leadership;
  • health;
  • partnership; and,
  • Education.
