MORE Than Oil’s team captain Mal Rolfe, once again gave his team the winning play for the 2009 Ela Motors/Avis Pennants season played on Sunday at the Port Moresby golf club.
In the 11-match season, Bank South Pacific, who were placed second in Round 10, were on a bye in the final round and could only watch from the sidelines as the next contender on the ladder Freeway Motors, took on one of the season’s toughest teams.
The team had strong camaraderie as team members who had “gone finish,” flew back for the finals of the Ela Motors/Avis every year, notably Colin Rigby, Lorna Moramoro and Mark Stallard.
This tradition has obviously spurred on the rest of the More Than Oil team.
The ladder at the end of another successful season has the team that has been in the top two positions for the last four years.
The scores at the end of the  two-day event were as follows: More Than Oil (60), Freeway Motors (52.5), Bank South Pacific (50),   MVIL/Mirupasi Lawyers (49.5), Kumho Tyres/Hanjung Power (48.5), Monier City Dragons (44), RH  Bulls (42), Ela Motors Massey Ferguson (40), DHL/Kina Finance (37), STC/JD Hayes (33.5), MRDC/Persans Loss Adjustors (31).
Ray Connolly, Ela Motors regional dealership manager for the Southern region, was on hand with co-sponsor of the Pennants competition of 24 years, Avis Rent-A-Car’s general manager Mike Roberts.
Roberts has also been instrumental in the introduction of the Avis/Ela Motors Player of 2009 Pennants.
The inaugural prize was a Taylor Made golf set which was won by MVIL/Mirupasi Lawyer’s player John Ruim.
Ela Motors and Avis Rent-A Car have confirmed their sponsorship for 2010.
