TWO main access roads connecting Okapa High School from Okapa station, in Eastern Highlands, are in devastating condition.

A contingent of education officers from the Implementation Monitoring Group (IMG) assessing school infrastructure to raise the status of primary schools to high school and high schools to secondary schools were confronted with knee-high mud patches.

Not even their four-wheeled drive vehicles could pass through without being pushed or towed.

Vehicles that got stuck in the mud were pulled out by an Okapa district administration driver who used a metal chain.

The officials visited to Okapa High School to assess its facilities to grant high school status next year.

Chairman of Parents and Citizens (PNC) Douglas Dagi expressed disgust over the bad road condition telling Okapa district administrator Peter Gare.

“You public servants must stay in the district and serve the people and immediately refrain from living and operating in Goroka town,” Dagi said.

He said students were always forced to carry their rations and school supplies.

After a heavy downpour yesterday in the area, locals and students helped to push and pull the vehicles out of the mud.
