Okapa students missing out

Letters

IT is disappointing to see Okapa students missing out on the Okapa MP Saki Soloma’s school fee assistance scheme.
We are delightful that our MP’s initiative of assisting students in tertiary institutions.
This tactic has been seen as political gimmick where previous MPs used it to win votes with nothing actually happening.
Soloma’s effort is the first of its kind and a reality.
However, some Okapa students are still missing out on it.
It is surprising to see names that were not formally listed in the letters sent to MP’s office popping up in the final school fee payment list.
These students were not even from Okapa.
They have just benefited from our privilege.
If this is entertained in the institution that I am studying in, I am sure it is happening in other institutions as well.
How did those names get into the system?
I believe this nonsense will continue as long as the staff who are currently serving in Soloma’s office remain.
They will tarnish his good standing with the people.
This has to stop.
Those in charge of this scheme should do a better job by ensuring that students who request assistance are genuinely from Okapa and not other districts in Eastern Highlands.
