A 60-YEAR-OLD has been jailed for 12 months for carrying around his great grandparent’s bone with the intent to practise sorcery.

Jonathan Wangimarik is married with six children.

He is a former police officer living in his Kwatgu village in the Maprik Urban local level government in East Sepik.

Senior district magistrate Fridolin Kambibel jailed Wangimarik for 12 months with hard labour on Tuesday, saying sorcery was wrong and evil.

Kambibel said the bone the man was carrying around was from his great grandparent’s thigh.

He said the bone was used in sorcery which had caused much misery and loss of lives in the country.

Kambibel told Wangimarik that sorcery was a threat to society.

“It is evil, wrong and a threat to the community.

“Therefore, I sentence you to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour,” he said.

Wangimarik will spend his sentence in Boram Prison in Wewak.

He is currently held at the Maprik Police Station cell waiting to be transported to Boram.
