Old classroom converted to a new library
The National, Tuesday August 20th, 2013
STUDENTS at the Ororo Primary School in Port Moresby have a new library – thanks to Bank South Pacific’s community project initiative.
The bank said in a statement last Friday it had renovated one of the run-down double-classrooms and converted one of them into a library.
The facilities were opened last Friday by BSP Gordon’s branch manager Maureen Wanu witnessed by staff and students.
The renovation work included repainting the building, replacing the ceilings, installing new electrical fittings for lights and a new air conditioning unit in the library.
The bank said the staff devoted their own time during weekends to work with the contractor, assisting with general building maintenance. The bank staff also conducted a clean-up at the school.
Students were so excited that they did not wait for the official opening last Friday. They began using the library during the recent National Book Week.
Wanu said the bank was delighted to help make a change.
“BSP is not only committed to delivering banking products and services, we are committed to making a difference in the community by delivering worthy projects and supporting causes that contribute to nation building,” she said.
School principal John Baya, thanked BSP for its contribution to the June Valley community.
