WESTERN Highlands province will be sending a strong 400-member contingent to participate at the 4th National Games in Port Moresby starting on Friday.
Team Western Highlands participants started flying out of the province on Sunday and Monday before the opening ceremony tomorrow.
The provincial government supported the team with K100,000 while Deputy Governor and North Waghi MP Benjamin Mul allocated K61,000 for the 106 participants.
Governor Tom Olga told the participants during a farewell ceremony held at Newtown last Thursday that if they performed well in the games and in one of the top three spots, they could have the chance to Arafura Games in Darwin next year.
Olga said that his government had initiated the social policy to include the participation of youths, women and sports as pillars to achieve social integral development in the province.
He urged them to be good ambassadors of the province during their stay in Port Moresby.
He told them not to let the province down.
He said they were going to the games with high expectations.
North Waghi district administrator Steven Wii when presenting a cheque for K34,000 to North Waghi Sport Council chairman Patrick Ambelye last Saturday, said the local MP has supported the 106 participants from his electorate to prepare themselves for the games.
