Ombudsman to summon AG
The National, Tuesday March 25th, 2014
MINISTER for Justice and Attorney-General Kerenga Kua is expected to be summoned by the Ombudsman Commission to help in its investigations into the State’s K3 billion loan.
Chief Ombudsman Rigo Lua said the commission would summon prominent people, including Government officers, to provide information on the loan. “The nation needs to be informed of the controversies that are happening in relation to the K3b loan,” he said.
“It’s a compliance issue and our main concern is the public funds involved. Breach of the direction will result in prosecution in the National Court.
“We stand ready to defend our directions. It is the biggest financial case with a loan of that magnitude.”
The Government plans to secure the loan from the UBS Investment Bank to buy a 10.1 per cent stake in Oil Search Limited.
The Ombudsman is basing its directive to the State on the Constitution Section 27 (4), Section 209 and Section 27 (5).
