Omkolai folks are good role models

Letters, Normal

I WOULD like to express my gratitude to the people of Omkolai for setting a good example for the highlands region when it comes to protecting public properties.
Recently, it was published Gumine High School was established in 1977.
It has been in operation for 33 years but the school still looks new.
The credit must go to the local community who treat the school as part of their property and look after it and the staff and students.
A good example was during a tribal fight in 2005.
Although the Omkolai tribe was involved in the clash with another tribe, the students from the other tribe were not harmed or chased out from the school.
The people ensured that the fight did not spill into the school.
This showed the Omkolai people respect and value the school.
The recent development by local MP Lucas Dekena was a bonus.
I was a student there and have come to appreciate the local community and the people there.
They have showed that they are good role models in terms of protecting public properties.
