One centre for counting votes: BRC

THERE will be only one counting centre in Bougainville to count the votes for the referendum, Bougainville Referendum Commission chief officer Mauricio Claudio says.
Claudio said it was practical to have one counting centre so that when votes from all the constituencies had been counted and results declared, people would not become suspicious of how people voted in each constituencies. “All the ballot boxes in Bougainville will be brought to Buka.”
“Ballot boxes from PNG and overseas will all be flown to Buka,” Claudio said.
“We want the results to truly reflect the overall results of the desire of all the Bougainvilleans because Bougainvilleans want a credible referendum.
The referendum dates are: Sept 27 – issuing of writs; and, Nov 23 – polling.
