TRIBAL fighting continues in Hela, this time in South Koroba, several kilometres outside Tari, relating to the local level government council elections.
While elections have concluded peacefully, an 18-year-old man was killed while on his way to church yesterday morning.
Hela police commander Teddy Agwi said while local level government elections throughout Hela had been peaceful, the only reported incident was the one in South Koroba in which Daniel Kambaribi was killed in retaliation over burnt houses.
He said a councillor who was elected decided to join one of the two camps to elect the president.
He said however, the councillor then decided to leave the original camp and then join the other camp which angered the members and supporters of his original camp, who claimed to have spent money and resources in keeping the councillor’s support.
The disgruntled group burnt down several houses belonging to the relatives and supporters of the councillor.
In retaliation, the relatives of the councillor went and killed Kambaribi who was on his way to church.
