ONE more health department employee in Port Moresby has been tested positive for the Covid-19, bring the national total to 111 as of yesterday.
The 27-year-old man is now in isolation at the Rita Flynn medical facility. He was one of those tested during the targeted testing of health department staff following the confirmation of seven workers in the department.
National Pandemic Response Controller David Manning said contract tracing for health department staff was continuing.
Meanwhile, 45 samples were collected in a drive-through Covid-19 testing sampling center yesterday conducted by the St John Ambulance at the Taurama Aquatic Centre in Port Moresby.
Commissioner and Chief Officer of St John Matthew Cannon said the samples would go through the Pulmonary Chain Reaction (PCR) testing before the results were released.
“We were able to collect 45 samples in the past six hours. It will take two to four days before results are released,” he said.
The testing is conducted only on those who have one or more symptoms of the Covid-19 such as fever, cough, sore throat or runny nose.
Cannon said the drive-through sampling centre began yesterday and would continue for the next three weeks.

  • Are we going to have one more lockdown or not, cases are increasing everyday and people are still traveling in and out of the provinces especially Moresby and Lae

  • The number of COVID-19 cases are starting to increase in a rapid pace. Have the government equipped all hospital around the country with appropriate equipment to treat this deadly virus? Before the virus bombarded this nation, Marape and the Members of Parliament must come up with strict measures to combat this pandemic, before it is too late.

  • A NEW TEST EQUIPMENT -“PULMONARY CHAIN REACTION” effectively replaces “Polymerase Chain Reaction” test….another first for PNG and no surprise coming from the Land of the Unexpected!!!

  • Let’s just hope that those who were or are tested must straight away be put into isolation centers ordered to selft isolate to awaiting their test results. No point testing someone and allowing them to roam freely and days later his results show positive then at that point we don’t know how many people they have come in contact with before and after the test.
For those active cases now under care and isolation at either Rita Flynn or PMGH, what sort of treatment/medical care are they being given and how long before an infected person is tested again to see if they still have the virus or have fully recovered?
Information being dished out still lack professional standard as we see presenters struggling to try explain simple factual data.
What has gone wrong in the first place causing this current spike in infections among the frontliners and their close contacts.

  • Sorry we must not complaining, and please must abide by health regulations to be saved

  • Result blo ol man playim politics lo parliament. Taim sik m i stap na nogat ol pipol i kisim em nau politicians like Peter Oneill na ol narapla husat wok lo putim pressure lo government na tok rausim displa lockdown ya m ol tasol i mekim displa ikamap.
take all those sick people to his house and line them up at the door step so that he can face the reality.

  • I see that our Health Medical staffs are not adhering to the health slogan, prevention is better than cure like literally they are not taking into consideration about the dressing that they make to assist the infected patient. Dressing in this time is more crucial and important as to the fact that they have to cover themselves up properly before attending to a patient. So in that way, the number of cases will not inflate but remain stegnant.

  • Plis o..yupela mas sekim gut despela ol facemasks ya oli bin bringim ikam lo private jet ya ikam lo China. Nogut ol masks ya I contaminated ya..deliberately..who knows.

  • With the typical png way of lifestyle and socializing, you think Covid19 will slow down? Sorry PNG, em Bai hard. COVID19 is here to stay so live with it.

  • Fear is another virus, do not fear, COVID-19 is just like the enemy is coming like the flood, Isaiah 59;19 The Lord promised that I will raise a Standard against the flood & let us be patient to see his flag raised, PNG is still low compared with others hit a great number….

  • Citizens please remain calm. The cases will still increase but the recovery will be more. We don’t need another lockdown. Just take covid 19 as one of those usual diseases or viruses.
I know you might think Im wrong. But try look at my pespective. Malaria takes around 2 lives a day in PNG,now Covid 19 takes 1 life after two to three weeks…Remember the mind is the battlefield. I understand that hopefully it might escalate into an epidemic with mass deaths….May God bless The Independent State of Papua New Guinea.
