O’Neill: Tax credit deal under review to meet priorities
PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill, pictured, says the tax credit arrangement is under review because some projects proposed and delivered were not necessarily in line with government priority.
Replying to questions from Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu, O’Neill said projects under the tax credit scheme had not been delivered to the expectation of the people and the services they deserved.
“Most of the companies do pay GST and the GST has been collected and paid back to the provincial government if they are doing business in Morobe,” he said.
“In terms of tax credit and special support grants, it is my understanding that tax credit
scheme arrangements are made around project areas.”
Saonu had questioned if Morobe was entitled to benefit from payments from corporate entities operating at the major wharf in the province, particularly segments of the Highlands Highway and the Nadzab airport for the import and exports of goods and services.
O’Neill said under that review the government would consider the issues raised by Saonu.
