O’Neill trashes report

FORMER Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has trashed Government’s claim that the 2018 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Leaders’ Summit had cost the nation around K600 million.
He was responding to an audit report on the Nov 2018 event released by Finance Minister Rainbo Paita which put the total cost of the summit at around K600mil.
O’Neill said the K600mil was too high.
“Some of the costs were covered by (our) partners. We built infrastructure that people are using now, such as the good tarsealed roads you (Paita) drive on today in Port Moresby,” O’Neill said.
He said the total project commitments from partner nations were over US$2 billion (K7.06bil) including an electricity programme which the Government was yet to deliver.
Paita had told The National earlier that the Apec report and the audit would be tabled in Parliament during its November sitting.
The O’Neill-led government secured the bid to host Apec in Port Moresby in 2013.
World leaders including US Vice-President Mike Pence and Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the country’s biggest international event in November 2018.
Delegations from countries as far as South America stayed in Port Moresby’s major hotels.

  • PO you have done your part.Let what you have done speak to people of this nation and compare you with other PMs.Actions speak louder than voices.

  • The history of PNG ever since Independence PO you have brought into our country and now we proud to drive into new sealed road likewise flying overs and many more around PNG. Renbo Paita you shout your moth and staying quite.

  • PO, no need to justify, only when transactions go way out of PFMA, all you have done is tangible on your reign. Let them surface the audit and advise on the decisions from the findings. No one is to be blamed.

  • PO you have vision, you will still drive and implement your vision in 2022. Well done. Incompetent young leaders now dancing on their empty drum bit.

  • You still the best PM out of the 8 todate. God willing if you had a full term till 2022 we don’t know what this country would have been like! We will have to wait for year 2022!

  • 2018 APEC was biggest event hosted by PO. There will a big question who will be the next PM tol Host such event again. If not its going to be the History in PNG.

  • O`Neil, your times were over. Just keep quiet and enjoy this time with your best friend Belden Namha and discus the next plan on how you guys would come up and throw out this Government in the next election. Your plan might be possible if its in the Will of our Lord God, because He knows you from your heart whether you are good leader or evil leader.

  • Not one particular region will make that decision for PO to be PM, right now we all feel th e effect of his leadership. It’s the nation that will decide his faith. Yupla lus tingting long UBS loan or nogat.

    • Bruce, you are totally right. Fools are already drawing conclusions, even into 2022.

Only God knows what each and every individual is like on the inside. God will always make the final call in everything. All things happen according to His predetermined plans.

In leadership, only God decides who stands, and who falls.
He alone knows who will form the next government in 2022.
Therefore, let’s leave everything in God’s hands.

  • PO you have a lot to answer for in the coming months regarding your dealings with Asia Development bank and the well known China Rail who have been stealing state and provincial bid contracts from under hard working PNG Citizens for over a decade now. Enough is enough of your lies, you had the guts to steal from this nation and now be a man and accept you pace as one of PNG’s Greatest failures.

  • No need for smearing each other as we are one country men and women. The truth will be revealed so every leader must refrain from giving miss leading information as I quote the Word of God; ” you will know the truth and truth will make you free”. God bless PNG

  • People had enough of PO type people, PMJM will get it in 2022 because he is able to say no to foreigners .

    • Thank you aunix. Foreigners are guests in our country. Except for few genuine ones who love this country and it’s people, most foreigners are here for themselves.

Those who betray this country and it’s people do not deserve to live here. These are the corrupt ones who put their own self interests ahead of that of the whole country.

Such persons must be identified and be dealt with by the laws of this country.

      May God bless PNG.

  • What is there to show for ? not every average Papua new guinean own a vehicle to drive on those Chinese built roads or will have access to these facilities that were built. What about the purchase of the Maserati’s ? who is to be held responsible for them ?Not all government services is reaching all average Papua New Guineans .Money should have been used to increase pay for Policeman and Women, CIS & Defence force personal & improve their housing and what about our Health Sector ,Nurses and Doctor’s, teachers .Free up land to relocate illegal settlers or settlements around the country.Thank you.

Abel: APEC costs PNG K1 billion THE raging debate on the real cost of APEC can be somewhat laid to rest after the treasurer revealed the total accumulated cost figures of the major global event at the National Broadcasting Corporation Press Club event held on Monday night.

  • What a lot shit with these APEC when our very people are struggling…Some of us talking here don’t even have good roads, schools or hospitals in our villages. We act and pretend as if we were born in Port Moresby.
These money should have been used for tangible developments in our rural towns and villages but rather spent on these cars and buses which was a waste.
