O’Neill’s leadership

Letters

SOMEONE said: “The greatest want of the world is the want of men, men who will not be bought or sold, men who does not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose inner most soul is true and honest, men whose conscience is true to duty as the needle to the pole, and men who stand for the right though the heavens fall”.
This is a great saying from the pen of inspiration, and we as a nation need men who are patriots who are able to put the welfare of the people of this nation before their own.
Nevertheless, to find a man who fits the above description takes time and maybe one among a thousand.
Politicians like James Marape, Sir Peter Ipatas, Ben Micah, Dr William Tongamp are very good leaders with rare leadership qualities but none them raised a single voice to accuse Prime Minister Peter O’Neill of corruption, or let alone resign in the name of corruption when the universities unanimously consented to protest and boycotted classes in 2016.
If there was a true leader, then he would have resigned in 2016 when the students from all universities together with the parents have campaigned in 2017 to oust PNC but unfortunately PNC won, and the leaders like Marape rigorously engineered PNC to form government with O’Neill to continue as prime minister, but now his move with other leaders and claiming to change leadership in the name of “bring back PNG” is a symptom of people desperate for power.
Marape is a politician of very high standard but his current move from PNC…if the plan does not work out, then Marape must prepare to hang his political boots like his indigenous brother – Don Polye in 2022.
O’Neill, Marape, Richard Maru, Ipatas, Dr Allan Marat, Kerenga Kua, and to name a few are the pride of our people.
We the people feel safe and secure as long as our leaders and there.
You are still our best and true leaders but any move to change O’Neill will reduce you all as a cheap politician.
O’Neill, as many believe is established by God to lead this country.
He is the Modern Nebuchadnezzar – the replica of the powerful King of ancient Babylon, and he will never be dethroned until God removes him at his own time.
Through O’ Neill, this country has experienced a revolution in change, and I don’t believe in any other person can do as Peter O’Neill is doing.
Despite the fact O’Neill has outperformed our past prime ministers in term of infrastructure development – changing the face of PNG, we are still a way behind in term equal participation in business or in getting maximum benefit from our natural resources.
In this sector, change will truly come about if all of us remove selfishness and greed, the “me first’ mentality that we are born with first, and it will take time.
I cannot deny the fact that some of you are of prime minister material but we are a developing nation and none of you are a perfect leader.
You will still make decisions that will affect our people, but from trial and era, maybe one day, we will produce quality leaders like Nelson Mandela or Abraham Lincoln.
Therefore, my simple advice to you all parliamentarian is, put politics aside, support PM to complete his term and work with him.
It needs a team to win the game.
Be a true son of PNG and have the spirit of our forefathers and help Prime Minister O’Neill to develop PNG.
It will be premature to dream that Peter O’Neill will be replaced.
Maybe 2022 and beyond is the right time.
