KUNDIAWA-GEMBOGL MP William Gogl Onglo has allocated K700,000 to help school leavers pursue further education.
Onglo, pictured, through the tertiary students school fee subsidy scheme chairman Tobias Baga, confirmed the allocation of K200,000 for the first round of payment and K500,000 for second round this year.
Baga paid K4500 for students attending the Highlands Youth Training and Rehabilitation College Simbu branch.
Baga said it was a five-year programme initiated to help students and parents.
College principal Jim Kolin, teachers and students thanked Onglo and the district development authority for investing in human resource development.
Kolin said they have enrolled more than 1000 students.
But due to financial problems, only 200 paid upfront during registration.
Other students are waiting for their sponsors and others were raising funds for the second semester.
Kolin said 300 students had benefited from the earlier allocation of fees and were studying in tertiary institutions here and overseas.
Hytarc director Michael Goro said research showed that there were many school leavers, prostitutes, drug addicts, tribal fighters, women and youths conducting illicit activities at Yuwai market.
