Online selection failed many

Letters

I AM writing to say that online application is not fair and it is absolutely a failure.
I sympathise with so many bright students who could not make it to tertiary institutions because they did not understand the pros and cons about online application.
They put wrong information and wrong choices through the online application, which did not give them the result they wanted.
The other contributing factor regarding online application is that students’ internal marks were not included with external exam results like what they used to do in the past years.
The students put their choices based on the results from their internal marks, which did not give the results they wanted.
The system only picked up results from external exam results which did not give them the required GPA to enter tertiary institutions.
If the internal marks are not needed, the schools should not make internal assessment because internal marks cannot be considered so why waste their time.
Department of Higher Education Research Science and Technology must not blame students or institutions for the mayhem.
At the end of the day, data is imputed by man.
Whatever results generated by the system are based the data input by man, so obviously, system can be abused by man if Mr Corruption is involved.
God bless all the grade 12 students who have missed out of entering tertiary institutions.
Don’t give up.
Keep going until you reached the Promised Land.

  • This a good concern to the human resources of Papua New Guinea. The Online Selection is just a recent technology Introduced in 2017. I believe that the problems encountered are taken as challenges and further improvements will be made to ensure that the Online Selection is effective and efficient to all secondary school students.
