ONLY K100 million was budgeted for road upgrading works in the National Capital District and not K800 million as claimed by the Opposition, Treasurer Don Polye says.

He said the Government was spending within budget to manage the budget deficit.

Polye was responding to questions by Kundiawa-Gembogl MP Tobias Kulang who asked if the K800 million allocated for NCD roads had been approved under proper budgetary processes.

He said the Government could not spend more than what had been appropriated under the budget as there was already a deficit.

He said the Government could borrow outside of the budget appropriation for next year but not this year.

Kulang also urged the media to report and publish correct facts and figures on budget allocations.

Polye said he was only aware of a  K100 million budget allocation in this year’s budget for roads.
