CITY manager Bernard Kipit says the NCDC betel nut control centre at Duran farm, Eight-Mile and the Edics Holdings betel nut wholesale operator at Tete, Gerehu remains the only approved locations for the wholesale trading of the nut.
“Both locations were established to regulate and control the supply and movement of betel nut into the city and shall remain the only locations to deal with the wholesale trade of betel nut in the city,” Kipit said in a statement.
“All suppliers of betel nut are required to observe the operations of the betel nut control centre at Duran farm Eight-Mile and the Edics Holdings buai wholesale operations at Tete, Gerehu and must use these locations to sell their supplies of betel nut into the city.”
Kipit said all movement of betel nut into the city would be controlled by the management of these locations in line with city hall’s control mechanisms.
“The public is warned that the situation is under heavy scrutiny and any attempts to smuggle betel nut into the city will be deemed illegal and dealt with severely under the Amendments to Summary Offences Act 2018 and the NCDC Betel nut Control Act 2014,” Kipit said.
Her urged residents to cooperate and support NCDC.
