IN every university and college, there must be a tutor or mentor for a particular course to guide students through their studies.
For the University of PNG external mode studies especially here at NCD Open College, we do not have a tutor or mentor to guide us.
For all of the 2017 first semester, we had no tutor or mentor for Introductory to Accounting for
Business Management Foundation Year (BMFY).
Most of the students failed this course.
It is not only Introductory to Accounting course.
Many other courses studied respectively at UPNG OC have not had mentors and tutors.
Students at the UPNG OC, though external mode, are struggling.
We paid so much money and the services provided are not even close to satisfactory.
Students pay K660 per course
to study. Science students pay close to K1000 per course.
We should be treated equally as internal students.
Our parents are wasting so much money on us.
It’s the administration that always fails us by not providing tutorial classes.
This year, timetables have already been put out, but tutoring times have yet to be announced.
We come round checking for classes, only to find that there’s no one to teach us.
I know for sure that this year is
going to be the same as last year.
Please understand: We paid so much money to study here.
Authorities responsible: If you have human hearts, then think about us.
We are struggling to be educated.
Students here are confused and in total darkness.
Organising classes at weekends is not good enough.
Please try and organise some classes on weekdays to make up for lost time.
We do not have enough time.
This is week nine for internal students and week three for us external students.
We are going to sit simultaneously for exams with internal students, which is unfair.
