THE National Airport Corporation (NAC) says all airports should operate their normal routines from today.
NAC chief operating officer Sylvester Kenatsi said Air Niugini and PNG Air had indicated a return to normal routine today based on their own risk assessment.
He said the new Kagamuga Airport in Mt Hagen was closed midday yesterday but re-opened after a review of the situation.
Kenatsi said the brief closure followed threats of violence at the airport by certain groups of people.
“Our officers at Mt Hagen airport instituted security measures to control movement of people into the terminal,” he said.
Kenatsi said a notice was issued early yesterday to alert airlines about the threat but there was no disturbance so the airport was re-opened.
He said the situation in other major airports was normal.
“I am glad that our stakeholders; that is the customary landowners around the airport area have come to support us,” Kenatsi said.
“We are encouraging people to respect the facilities for a good image of Mt Hagen city.”
