THE National Road Safety Council board will meet to decide whether to continue or close its operations in Morobe, Road Traffic Authority chief executive officer Nelson Terema said.

Terema received a call from board chairman to that effect yesterday.

“I will not make any comments here but will wait for the board’s decision,” he said.

Terema, who had been in the NRSC for more than 15 years, said its main function was to promote safety and not to make money.

He said NRSC was a government body put to carry out road safety awareness.

“It is the people’s safety first and not the money issue,” he said.

NRSC’s primary role in Port Moresby and Lae, which came into operation in 2003, was to educate drivers, conduct awareness, help pedestrians, passengers, drivers and crews before they used the road.
