Opposition denies leaking report

THE Opposition has categorically denied leaking the Ombudsman Commission’s report on the UBS loan.
Leader Patrick Pruaitch, pictured, said last Friday that the Opposition had no idea about the report.
He claimed that the only people who could have been responsible was Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and his agents.
O’Neill has blamed the Opposition for leaking the report on the K3 billion loan investigated by the Ombudsman Commission.
O’Neill said the matter had already been clarified in Parliament.
The loan was sought from the United Bank of Switzerland to buy Oil Search shares in 2014.
Pruaitch described it as a national nightmare and labelled the UBS loan as a scandal and demanded the prime minister resign to protect the integrity of the office he held.
Pruaitch said O’Neill should resign as he had been implicated in the report.
“The UBS deal is a scandal and we at Opposition are demanding the prime minister to resign,” he said.
Moresby North-West MP Sir Mekere Morauta said the UBS deal was the worse deal he had seen and heard of. Sir Mekere is a former governor of the Bank of Papua New Guinea, secretary for Finance, prime minister and Opposition leader.
“This is the worst deal as we lost our shares.
“We lost everything so we ask the Prime Minister to explain in whose interest he signed the loan,” Sir Mekere said.
Sinasina-Yongomugl MP Kerenga Kua said O’Neill must table the report.
He has also called on the Ombudsman Commission to refer all those implicated to the leadership tribunal.
