THE Opposition has revealed that their lawyers had been instructed to file contempt proceedings against members of the National Executive Council.
Former attorney-general Sir Arnold Amet told the media that they had decided to take to court members of the NEC who made the decision to suspend the East Sepik government while the matter was before the Supreme Court.
He said they would be filling a contempt application against the Minister for Inter-government relations Mark Maipakai, Treasurer Don Polye and Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.
“As a former chief justice, there is prima facie case of contempt of court,” Sir Arnold said.
He said all members of Cabinet who made the decision were
implicated as their collective action was contentious.
Amet said the NEC had written two
separate letters to the ESP Governor Peter Waranaka to
withdraw the constitutional review matter
before the Supreme Court.
He said the NEC attempted to pervert the court of justice and justice administration as the matter was before the court.
