Opposition welcomes Japanese investments
The National, Monday February 15th, 2016
OPPOSITION leader Don Polye has commended major investments by Japan on infrastructure in Lae and Morobe.
Major projects funded by the Japanese Government include the K700 million Nadzab International Airport, K250 million power supply to Lae, and the Lae-Nadzab urban development plan. Japanese ambassador Morio Matsumoto and Japan International Cooperation Agency chief representative Shigeru Sugiyama were in Lae last week to visit the Japanese-funded projects.
Polye, who was instrumental in negotiating Japanese funding for the Nadzab airport when he was Transport Minister, said all assistance from that country should be commended.
“I welcome Japanese support in turning Nadzab into an international airport.
“I’m sure that will diversify the Morobe, Momase and Highlands economies.”
Polye said the K250 million power project would light up Lae while the Lae-Nadzab urban development plan would see a bustling economic hub set up.
“We are going to see the Markham Valley become the centre of growth of the diversified economy that I talked about,” he said.
