Ora steers Madang Technical College to a 74-run victory

MADANG Technical College proved too skillful for Divine Word University to run away with a resounding 74-run victory in the Twenty20 match wrapping up the Madang cricket season in style.
Madang Technical College selected to bat first and scored an impressive 6/135 from their 20 overs.
Man-of-the-match Tomtom Ora top-scored with 59 while his teammates David Ora 30 and Junior Bevan 30.
In reply, Divine Word University were bowled out for only 61 in 16.4 overs with good bowling from Madang Technical College. Kapera Touva was the star claiming five wickets, which included a hat-trick.
Cricket PNG development officer Ben Ryan who joined in to make the numbers for Divine Word University made the top score of 39.
A ground of youngsters from Guvstor village put on an entertaining exhibition match.
The boys showed tremendous talent and enthusiasm for the game. The stand-out performers were 15-year-old Israel Laki, who scored 46 and 11-year-old Jonny Piggha, with 20.
It was another significant step for cricket in Madang with the election of officer bearers at the inaugural annual general meeting.
Leonard Ora was elected president, Neil Hermes was secretary/treasurer and committee members were John Labu and Mary Kunei. 
Plans are underway for a new competition with the establishment of the Madang Cricket Association next year.
