THE Papua New Guinea Orchids will prepare for their Sept 2 clash with the Brisbane Broncos women’s team after the train-on squad is announced on Aug 26.
It is understood that New Zealand and Australian internationals make up the Broncos, along with Orchid Amelia Kuk.
PNG Rugby Football League chairman Sandis Tsaka said the national women’s championship would be held on Aug 24 at the National Football Stadium, where players would be identified for the squad.
Tsaka said the top-two confederations would play the curtain- raiser to the Digicel Cup preliminary final.
He said squad would have a week to prepare before the final team is selected to travel to Brisbane.
Tsaka noted that players could be included in the train-on squad after Aug 26 should the head coach need a replacements.
He said players would be selected on form and performance at the championship.
The Southern Confederation last year dominated the Orchids squad with players like Carol Humeu, Brenda Goro, Maima Wei, Janet Michael, Joanne Kuman, Cathy Neap, Vero Waula and Naomi Kaupa while Helen Abau’u returned rugby union and was selected for the PNG Palais.
After the 2017 World Cup, a lot of potential prospects will look to stake their claim for a spot in the squad during the championship.
