A MAN in Northern is facing an incest charge in court after his wife caught him assaulting their daughter.
Police said the 46-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his daughter, had been sexually assaulting her between on several occasions between Dec 1, 2009, and March 3, 2010, in Oro Bay.
Provincial police commander Victor Isouve said the girl was six years old when she was first assaulted by her father.
He said the man’s wife grew suspicious and intervened on two occasions when he tried to sexually assault the child.
Police said every time she questioned him about the offence, he turned around and bashed her.
“On April 3, 2010, the mother caught her husband red-handed when he was sexually penetrating their daughter,” Isouve said.
He said the sex attack was reported to the village court but no action was taken.
The distressed mother later laid a complaint with police in Popondetta who responded by arresting the man and charging him with incest last Friday.
The man appeared before committal court on Monday and was remanded in custody at the Popondetta police cells to await further hearings.
