THE Oro Country Netball Association staged their provincial tournament in Popondetta last week to select training squads for the national netball championship sand PNG Games.
In the seniors, Ijivitari were too strong for Sohe, winning 32-21.
In the junior division games, the Ijivitari Under-17 beat Sohe 29-14, while in the U13 playoff, Sohe turned the tables, beating their Ijivitari rivals 14-10.
Northern’s leading netball administrators Phyllis Deboa and Mabel Isa are coordinating the netball competition in the province after reviving interest in the code at the start of the year.
“Despite criticism, we have run a successful tournament and hope to put on a strong showing at the nationals and the PNG Games,” Deboa said, with Isa nodding in agreement.
The women from Sohe were hosted by Evelyn Lala, who accommodate them free-of-charge at Popondetta police barracksfor the duration of the tournament.
From the team and player registrations collected, teams were rewarded with trophies and cash prizes.
Selected players from the training squads are expected to raise their own levies of K1500 and K500 respectively.
