ORO shocked Port Moresby with a convincing 3-1 win in Round 4 of the Telikom-sponsored National Soccer League on Saturday.

The victory at the Correctional Institution Training Oval, Bomana, Port Moresby, saw the Northern team move into second in the Telikom-sponsored league.

The match was the main game of a double-header that saw defending champions Hekari United held to a 0-0 draw by Admiralty.

Coming off a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Besta United at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium last week, Oro have had a mixed bag of results, having beaten Admiralty 1-0 in Round 2 and their unpredictability was on display again as they put on an impressive performance to be in control for long periods during the game.

Oro coach Joe Turia was pleased with the performance, saying the game highlighted what he had said since the opening round that his side’s title hopes were just as good as any others in the competition.

Turia said defenders Campbell Mirirait, Michael Lohai, Moses Asirib and Kiwa Tepo deserved most of the accolades for keeping Moresby out for the most part.

Midfielder Jacob Sabua, captain Ian Yanum and Kohu Lien did their part at the opposite end of the field, outplaying the city’s Andrew Marampau, Augustine Karava, Abel Ilaitia and Basil Jofari.

Oro’s tactic of putting pressure on strikers Felix Bondaluk and Neil Hans worked well with both men effectively shut out of the game.

Oro scored their first goal through a header Henry Ronney, who timed a Michael Lohai cross. Both teams played aggressively, which resulted in Marampau being red-carded for taking down Sabua.

Sabua himself was removed from the pitch minutes later after earning his second yellow for dangerous play.

Oro held on to their 1-0 lead at halftime.
