Oro students receive subsidies

NORTHERN students had their school fee subsidies paid to their institutions this week – thanks to Governor Gary Juffa – after a prolonged delay.
The Oro government had allocated K1 million through the provincial executive council in 2019 for school fee subsidies.
Early this week, about K665,000 was paid to institutions catering for 245 students across the country under its tertiary students school fee assistance scheme.
The balance is yet to come.
This was an initiative from Juffa to address education, with 37 training institutions receiving their subsidies this week.
Each student received K2,500 to K5,000, depending on the type of courses they had enrolled for.
Juffa said as long as a student was enrolled at a certified college or institution, his government would continue to help with fees whenever applicable.
“The human resource of our province is a conduit for generating sustainable development for Oro,” he said.
“An educated generation will ensure a greater Oro that possess the human capital to effect change for the betterment of lives of the 180,000-plus people.”
Juffa reminded the students that they were privileged and should not waste their opportunities.
“I strongly encourage Oro students who are recipients (of the subsidies) to consider returning and working in the province so you can make meaningful contribution to the development of your province,” he said.
He apologised for the delays in paying the subsidies due to administrative bureaucracy in the approval process for disbursement.
Juffa, however, confirmed that his administration remained committed to implementing the subsidies and said from next year, the subsidies would be paid.
