IT was all action between the two best teams as Oro United edged out minor premiers New Guinea Company Settlers 1-0 in the major semi-finals in the Popondetta Urban Soccer Association at Independence Oval on Sunday.

The solo goal for Oro United came in the second stanza and took the thriller down to the wire, with players showing their true colours and spectators kept in suspense until the final whistle.

Oro United now secure the first grand final berth, while Settlers will play the winner of Galea-North East.

That game was abandoned because of poor lighting. The play in a rematch on Saturday, with the winner qualifying for the preliminary final against Settlers on Sunday.

Most of these players are looking forward to being recruited by  Oro FC for the National Soccer League 2014 season.

Settlers coach Jonge Yaungere said it was one of the best games played so far but he was disappointed with the result.

He said his players broke down in defence in the second half, allowing United to score the winning goal.

Yaungere said the challenge against the winner of Galea-North East was a must win situation and they would polish areas his players fell down in.

In the women’s competition, Goruta stopped favourites Kaks 2-1.

Kaks will meet Tarangau in the preliminary final after a strong win against an equally determined Blue Kumuls 1-0.  It was Taranagau’s Neba sisters – Betty and Christine – who denied opposition.

The grand final is scheduled for October 20.
