VOLLEYBALL teams from Northern province did not win the tournament or any individual awards but they have learnt many things from the recently-completed Digicel National Volleyball championships.
Their attendance was thanks mainly to Leonard Kajari who sponsored the team.
He stepped in after Team Oro’s request to the provincial government and business houses in the province fell on deaf ears.
Kajari, who is chairman of the LJ Amalgamated Consultants, came in whole-heartedly for the good of youths in Oro.
The company forked out K18,000 to pay for 21 return airline tickets for the players and officials and also uniforms.
Company general manager John Dickson Daingo said the company would continue to support youths and sports in the province and in other social activities.
He said the aim was to reduce criminal activities, improve sporting performances, and bring transformation and reformation to youths’ lives.
Daingo also appealed to Oro leaders to look into youths’ needs and give them the opportunity they deserved.
Oro Volleyball president Evan Digara thanked Kajari for taking the lead in ensuring volleyball was alive in the province.
He said for many years, a lot of sporting teams had difficulties competing outside the province because of lack of government and corporate support.
He said Kajari’s action was a wake-up call for other leaders to support social activities which promoted the province.
The sponsorship by Kajari covered the Sohe, Ijivitari and Popondetta teams.
