OIL Search Ltd (OSL) is planning to abandon its Wasuma-1 ST2 well in Iagifu, Kutubu, Southern Highlands province, due to the poor quality of hydrocarbons.
OSL managing director Peter Botten in a statement last Friday said both the Iagifu and Toro reservoir intervals intersected in Wasuma-1 ST2 were thinner and of poorer quality than pre-drill expectations and the well was considered to be non-commercial.
Mr Botten said: “The forward plan on completion of the logging programme is to plug and abandon the well.”
He said Wasuma-1 ST2 well had reached a total depth of 3,900m and preparations were underway to complete the well logging programme.
OSL has 71.25% stake in the drilling while the rest is held by Nippon Oil Exploration.
Meanwhile, testing of the Al Meashar-1 well in Yemen and the second drill-stem test (DST), covering the basement section over the interval 3,180m to 3,660m, is currently underway.
