OK Tedi Mining Ltd (OTML) Cats rugby union team are on a mission to bring home glory and prestige.
The players from the mining township in the Star Mountains, Western province, have set their eyes on victory this year.
The team that left for Sydney on Wednesday will be participating in the OTML Cats annual Australian tour.
The 20-man team are currently participating in the Bondi 10s tournament in Sydney which ends tomorrow. They will head off to the Palm Beach Currumbin Alleygators Rugby 10s tournament on the Gold Coast. The tournament starts next Saturday.
This is the third year for the team to attend the Alleygators Rugby 10s tournament but their second in the Sydney Bondi 10s challenge.
The Allygators Rugby 10-a-side takes place over two days at the Currumbin Alleygators, Palm Beach.
The Bondi 10s event, initiated in 2005, is in memory of rugby players and fans who were victims of the 2002 Bali bombings in Indonesia.
The two-day tournament will be held at Woollahra Colleagues Rugby Club, Rose Bay.
Last year, the team finished as runners-up in the bowl final in the Alleygators 10s and shield final at the Bondi 10s tournaments.
With the support of sponsors OTML and the community in Tabubil, the OTML Cats are expected to return with better results.
Other sponsors include Downer EDi Mining, JTA International, Tabubil Engineering, Hasting Deering Ltd, Tabubil Chem-Care, Airlines PNG, Super Value Store (SVS), Asia Pacific Travel and Tabubil Gazebo Club.
Tabubil Rugby Union president Anthony Aruha said their participation would expose and familiarise the players to a different brand of rugby, culture and environment.
Both tournaments have attracted international interest with teams travelling from New Zealand, Fiji, Hong Kong, Singapore and PNG.
