MORE than 200 widows from the Christian Outreach Centre (COC) in the Highlands from other church denominations attended a conference in Mt Hagen last week.
This was the second widow’s conference held by the COC church, from Sept 14–17 in Mt Hagen, to encourage widows to stand their grounds and face challenges with God as their defender.
The conference coincided with the country’s 46th Independence Day.
Conference guest speakers Ps Agnes Mek told the gathering that the Word of God was the only tool that would change their focus and cause them to think positive.
She said being a widow came with many challenges, but it all depended on how the focus was placed.
“Through this conference, we want to get you out of the prison you have been living for years make a new start with God.”
Ps Ruth Roni reminded widows were guided and protected by God and there was no reason they have to live with struggles and pain.
“Place your focus in God and create an environment that is in line with his word,” she said. Ps Roni urged women to maintain their position and put into practice what they have learnt through this four days conference.
She added that the third widows conference held in Jiwaka next year.
