MORE than 2000 Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) youths from seven provinces recently gathered in Porgera, Enga, for a week-long youth and ambassador congress.
The Porgera Joint Venture, the operators of Porgera gold mine, supported the event by providing the camp venue, the water supply and fire extinguishers.
The gathering, hosted by the Porgera SDA youths, brought together participants from Enga, Hela, Southern Highlands, Western Highlands, Jiwaka, Western and West Sepik. The theme of the of the camp was “Saved to Serve” and ran from July 3 to July 8.
The event focused on helping young adults develop the spiritual and social aspects of their lives.
The congress was officially opened on July 2 by Western Highlands Mission (WHM) secretary Pastor Samuel Mollen.
Mollen said the world was changing very fast and people were becoming more secular and materialist.
“The church leaders will … keep them together and encourage them to maintain their faith and help others,” Mollen said.
