MORE than one hundred boxes of library books from Brisbane in Australia were delivered to Fugwa in Hela last month.
More than a thousand school students in the province will now have quality reading books, thanks to Oil Search and Hela Rural Development Foundation (HRDF).
The books were donated to five schools and will benefit students from elementary to grade 8.
There were resource materials for the teachers as well.
HRDF founder and the operations leader, Eric Yawas said that the aim of the project was to help improve learning outcomes for children in the rural communities.
“They (donated books) are an invaluable learning tool for our children who represent the future of our communities,” he said.
Yawas commended his team for their effort and encouraged resource developers to continue such partnerships that would improve education and health services for remote communities in the regions where they operate.
