A week-long training was held in Goroka, Eastern Highlands recently, with the aim to train more people on how to do beekeeping.
More than 20 people completed the training facilitated by Helping Hand Honey Producers (HHHP).
Participants were from Enga, Western Highlands, Jiwaka, Chimbu, Morobe and Eastern Highlands.
HHHP managing director and trainer Kelly Inae said the purpose of the training was to invite more people to help grow the honey industry in the country.
He said he was happy to train more people to take part in bee farming as it is one of the areas that could increase the country’s honey production.
“We need more people in this industry to make it grow and this training is part of increasing the number of farmers,” Inae said.
“Honey industry is still at its infant stage in the country but it is a demanding product in the local market and around the world.”
Participant Bepi Waninga thanked Inae for sharing his knowledge with them through the training.
“We have also learnt a lot in the honey industry in just few days, and I think we are ready to take on board this opportunity,” Waninga said.
