Pacific airline representatives attend meeting
The National, Tuesday July 7th, 2015
SEVENTY airline representatives in the Pacific region attended the Association of South Pacific Airlines annual conference in Kokopo, East New Britain, recently.
The two-day meeting included chief executive officers, managing directors and senior representatives of airlines.
Board chairman Sir Frederick Reiher said Air Niugini had embarked on a programme to enhance its role as a leader in aviation and transport in the region.
“The multi-million kina redevelopment of Jackson airport will ensure travellers to Papua New Guinea, and transiting passengers, enjoy a vastly improved customer experience as they arrive, depart and transit through Port Moresby to domestic and international destinations,” Sir Frederick said.
He said a major code-share agreement between Air Niugini, Air Vanuatu and Solomon Airlines and the commencement of service to Port Vila last week would benefit the travelling public, ensure freight and tourism opportunities and provide the foundation for further aviation co-operation between the Melanesian Spearhead Group nations.
“Air Niugini is keen to explore areas of further co-operation within the ASPA membership for codeshare arrangements and working together to achieve greater harmony in travel and tourism in the region.” Sir Frederick said.
