LONDON Broncos recruit Wellington Albert has challenged young SP Hunters and Digicel Cup forwards to step up and fill the void created by the retirement of fellow Kumul Luge Page.
The 27-year-old, who signed a one-year deal with the English second-tier rugby league team this week, told The National yesterday that next year’s World Cup in England would present Papua New Guinea’s pack with a huge task.
“Since Page, one of our best front-rowers, has retired, it will be a huge task for our pack, including me, to step up and fill the void,” Albert said.
“Our young Hunters and Digicel Cup forwards who may be called up to replace Page will have to aim up as the tournament will be tough.
“There is a big challenge ahead of us and we have to be prepared to put ourselves in the best position to tackle the World Cup head-on.”
Meanwhile, the former Leeds Rhino had a woeful season this year due to an ankle injury which had prevented him from playing a single game for third-tier team Keighley Cougars.

Albert said he was thankful that this year’s World Cup had been postponed to 2022.
“I would definitely have missed the World Cup had it gone ahead in October,” the one-time Hunter said.
“I am happy now because the postponement gives me the opportunity to have a full season next year and regain my form in time for the World Cup.
“I’m hoping to get picked.
“An injury-free season will give me every chance of pushing for a spot in coach Michael Marum’s final squad.”
Albert also took the opportunity to create awareness on the Coronavirus pandemic that is affecting the country.
“With what’s happening in our country right now, I’d like to remind the public — including our fans — to continue to adhere to the safety measures put in place by the Government,” he said.
“Take care of yourselves and your loved ones during these tough times.”
