FUNDRAISING efforts for the victims and survivors of the mv Rabaul Queen disaster received a boost last Wednesday at the Royal Papua Yacht Club.
The charity event included a special performance by Journey through the stains featuring Papua New Guinea’s prominent artists Jeffery Feeger, Ratoos Haoapa and Pius Wasi.
The crowd was treated to Haoapa and Feeger’s live painting and accompanying music led by Pius Wasi.
The painting by Feeger is to be raffled, with all proceeds going toward helping victims of the disaster on Feb 2, in which close to 200 people are believed to have died.
Many were on their way back to school or work, having visited their families on the islands, while some were looking forward to reuniting with their friends and loved ones on the mainland.
bemobile, in association with Journey through the waves, initiated this fundraising drive to help the victims.
Some of the survivors and relatives of those unaccounted for are staying at the Salvation Army and Catholic Archdiocese in Lae.
bemobile hopes the money raised will help them during these difficult times.
The raffle tickets are going for K20 each and will be drawn on Feb 29.
